(Who Doesn't Need a Couple of) Existential Detectives?

Saturday afternoon's malaise turned into a pretty good weekend on the whole. Had dinner that evening with Bob at "Las Brisas" on Milpas: not-just-una-otra-taqueria, but a primary-colored Mexican place on the site of the former "Hibachi," run by someone whom I'm assuming is the same Korean proprietress.

Sunday brought a fairly entertaining gay-UCSB-staff brunch at a nice home overlooking an undeveloped arroyo on the West Side / Baja Mesa. Some sun at the beach, followed by delectable red snapper la Joe in a grapefruit vinaigrette at Bob's house.

But by far the highlight of the weekend was a DVD screening with Jodi & Bob of the amazing, somewhat schizoid I 'Heart' Huckabees. Any film featuring Lily Tomlin is bound to entertain, but the whole issue of existential-religious personal crisis profoundly resonated and brought plenty of laughs. Definitely worth watching again. This kind of script is inspiring in its wackiness.

Not incidentally, how cute is that Jason Schwartzman? Woof. Something about a short, swarthy twenty-five-year-old with dark eyebrows and a big nose...
